What I help with / Habits, smoking & vaping

Stop smoking, vaping and habit hypnotherapy in Halifax, Bradford and West Yorkshire

Habits run on autopilot, which is why willpower alone often isn't enough. Hypnotherapy works with the triggers, routines and feelings behind a habit, while you stay firmly in charge of the change.

Smoking, vaping and other habits are tied to routines, stress, social situations and the moments you reach for a cigarette, a vape or a snack without thinking. Hypnosis is a state of focused attention in which it can be easier to rehearse new responses, and solution focused therapy lowers the stress that so often triggers the old habit.

My stop smoking and vaping programme is two 60-minute sessions, one week apart, for £349 in total. It uses a tailored mix of psychotherapy, direct hypnosis, NLP and aversion techniques. Other habits are worked on in standard £80 sessions.

I want you to have the facts. A 2019 Cochrane review of 14 studies found there is not yet enough evidence to say whether hypnotherapy is more effective than other forms of stop smoking support, and that if there is a benefit it is likely to be small. Your own motivation matters most, and free NHS support, including local Stop Smoking Services and the NHS Quit Smoking app, can be used alongside hypnotherapy. I see clients from Halifax, Brighouse, Bradford, Calderdale and West Yorkshire in Shelf, and online.

Habits, smoking & vaping

Habits I can help with

Stopping smoking

Cigarettes, roll-ups and the routines around them, from the first one of the morning to the one after a meal.

Quitting vaping and e-cigarettes

Vaping can become constant and automatic. We work on the triggers and the hand-to-mouth habit.

Cravings and triggers

Rehearse calm, confident responses to the situations that used to set off a craving.

Nail biting

Help to notice the urge and replace it with something you'd rather do.

Skin picking and hair pulling

Often linked to stress or boredom. Sessions focus on reducing stress and building replacement habits. Please see your GP if this is causing injury or distress.

Comfort eating and snacking

Support with the stress and habits behind eating when you're not hungry. This is about habits, not eating disorders, and I don't offer weight-loss guarantees.

Cutting down on alcohol

Support with stress and routines if you want to drink less. If you are dependent on alcohol, please speak to your GP, as stopping suddenly can be dangerous.

Phone and screen habits

Take back time from endless scrolling and build routines that support rest and focus.

Questions and answers

Hypnotherapy for habits, smoking & vaping: your questions answered

Does hypnosis work to stop smoking?

Some people find it a powerful help, especially when they really want to stop, but the evidence is mixed. A 2019 Cochrane review found insufficient evidence to say whether hypnotherapy works better than other stop smoking support. I won't promise a success rate: your motivation is the biggest factor.

How much does stop smoking hypnotherapy cost in Halifax?

£349 for the two-session programme (two 60-minute sessions, one week apart), at the clinic in Shelf or online.

Can hypnotherapy help me stop vaping?

Yes, the same two-session programme can be used for vaping. We focus on the triggers, routines and hand-to-mouth habit that keep vaping going.

Can I use NHS stop smoking support as well?

Yes, and I'd encourage it. The NHS offers free support, including local Stop Smoking Services, a Personal Quit Plan and the NHS Quit Smoking app, which you can use alongside hypnotherapy.

Can hypnotherapy help with nail biting?

Many people find it helps. Habits like nail biting are automatic, and hypnosis can help you notice the urge and rehearse a different response, while solution focused therapy lowers the stress behind it.

Is hypnotic gastric band hypnosis effective for weight loss?

I don't offer weight-loss promises. UK advertising regulators have ruled against gastric band hypnosis claims that lacked clinical evidence. I can help with the habits and stress behind comfort eating, alongside advice from your GP.

Can I be hypnotised to do something I don't want to?

No. NHS guidance says you're fully in control under hypnosis and do not have to take on suggestions you don't want to. Hypnosis only helps with a change you want to make.

Hypnotherapy is a complementary therapy and does not replace medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. Please see your GP about any health concerns. If you are in crisis, call NHS 111, 999 in an emergency, or Samaritans on 116 123.
